Alaska Ho!

Finally, my expedition to Alaska has begun!  Long have I yearned to follow in my Grandpa OK
Smith's tire treads and travel by road to The Last Frontier.  Here we go!

Traveller's Log: Rockland, Maine to Ottawa, Ontario.  Oh Canada....(meow meow meow meow meow meow - inside story!).  Accommodations (free!): very comfy passenger seat of Miss Civic (1999 Honda) in the parking lot of a vacant building.  Currently writing from a bilingual Tim Horton's in Renfrew.  I'd like a café, por favor.  Breaking news: Canadian kids are cute, too.

Total distance from Rockland might be close to the same as O.K. Smith's first epic journey from Corpus Christi, Texas in the late summer of 1946. Your road will be smoother and faster. Then, almost 67 years ago, there were no interstates or four-lane highways and the Alaskan Highway and much of the rest of the route through Canada was gravel (and mud). The Alaskan Highway, some 1500 miles of basically brand new trail, had just been cut through the Yukon Territory. O.K. and I this summer will be replicating our trip in 1950 (when I was .5 years old) only this time by plane, thank you.
